Information Technology Policy Computer, networking, and electronic mail facilities and services are offered by the Office of Information Technology (IT) in support of the teaching and learning, research, and public service functions of the College. Access to the computer systems and networks owned and operated by the SUNY College of Optometry is a privilege, not a right, and imposes certain responsibilities for appropriate use, in accordance with College policy. Users should recognize that the primary intention of providing network service is to support the mission of the College and the conduct of its daily business. Acceptable Use Policy The purpose of this Policy is to outline the acceptable use of IT Resources at the College. The College is committed to ensuring open discourse and the free expression of viewpoints and beliefs. This commitment includes ensuring that academic dialogue is free from unwarranted institutional intrusion and oversight. With the values of open discourse and institutional restraint as guideposts, this Policy articulates and promotes the ethical, legal, responsible, and acceptable use of IT Resources by all members of the SUNY Optometry community and confirms the College’s responsibilities in connection w ith accessing such information. Electronic Mail Policy Electronic mail is the official means for communicating and a resource intended to be used for College business, including instruction, instructional support, patient care, research, service, administration, and college- related correspondence in support of the College’s mission. The purpose of this Policy is to establish the College’s policy regarding the use of the College’s electronic mail facilities. This Policy applies to Authorized Users of College email facilities are responsible for using and maintaining their email account in accordance with the procedures and guidelines set forth in this Policy. Mass Internal Email Policy The purpose of this Policy is to establish the College’s policy regarding the use of mass electronic mail on College email facilities. This Policy applies to all users who are issued a formal SUNY Optometry email account and governs mass emails sent by Authorized Users to members of the college community on the Colleg e’s email system. Mass email is any email message sent to the entire campus community, or to large segments of the community, such as all students , all graduate students, all faculty , all research faculty , and all staff .
