Great supervisor, great colleagues who also shared a great passion for the career and the desire to practice medically. Working along side MDs including glaucoma specialists and retina specialists further enhanced my clinical experience. The residency provided a lot of well-rounded valuable experience in vision therapy. We were able to get a lot of experience in head trauma, strabismus, vision and learning, and I really enjoyed having seminars from well- known vision therapy doctors. Patient care was never not enough, there was a lot of patient experience! I really enjoyed being surrounded by so many other residencies to work together with them. It was also invaluable to be able to teach a vision therapy course to third year students. Having to write a research paper and give a one-hour CE was also a very good experience. Thanks for pushing us to do that because it really makes us strong residents! Great mentorship and guidance from attendings. Lot of patient encounters has allowed me to build my clinical skills. Opportunity to precept students has allowed me to build my teaching skills, as well as expand my own knowledge basis on the subject matter. The supervisors are at the top of their field and willing to teach. The SUNY downstate ophthalmology grand rounds were a great learning and networking experience. The wide variety of the patient base means that I got exposure to all sorts of conditions and types of patients which has made me a more well-rounded clinician. All of the attendings are invested in our education and want us to learn so I feel like my knowledge base grew exponentially this year.

Type of patient population seen inner City in NYC is something that i feel would not be exposed to in other location Personally had great experiences with my residency supervisor who really helped to make sure I was getting the most out of residency and having the best learning experience. I enjoyed the Friday program because while my residency was in one specialized area, it helped me to learn about all the other areas as well and remain a well- rounded optometrist.
