Recent Examples of Actions taken as Result of Curricular Evaluations Include  Creation of the residency ‐ graduate program in response to interest in opportunities for developing clinically relevant research topics for new graduates with interests in research and advanced residency training.  Each residency developed a list of advanced competencies that provide defined program expectations and a benchmark for outcomes measures.  Vision Therapy and other rehabilitation residents are given a multi ‐ day rehabilitation seminar by guest lecturers.  The Supervision of Residents’ Policy is now more defined with four distinct phases the resident needs to achieve throughout the year to reflect increasing independence.  SUNY based/salaried residents now rotate through Saturday clinics, on a more equitable basis, to provide a balanced experience for all.  The first OD private practice vison therapy and rehabilitation residency was established.  The first hospital based pediatric optometry residency in the Northeast has been established.  The number of residents and residency programs have increased in accordance with the College’s prior strategic plan.  The US Military’s first acquired brain injury residency was established at Womack Medical Center to train military optometrists to treat military personnel with acquired brain injuries. Advanced Graduate Certificate in Optometry Business Management The mission of this program is to provide SUNY Optometry students in the professional program the knowledge and skills in business management that will increase their chances of success in their careers. Program goals are to:  Provide knowledge and critical tools to identify, anticipate, analyze and address important economic, policy and organizational challenges that optometry students confront as they transition into professional roles and progress in their careers  Provide knowledge and skills in practice management, finance, policy, human resources, ethics, evolving clinical and information management technologies, response to changing patient populations, develop inter ‐ professional relationships, and understanding of quality, compliance, risk, insurance and reimbursement.  Strengthen SUNY Optometry graduates’ potential to be leaders in the field.

Program effectiveness is assessed through the following mechanisms:  Student count and completion rate  Advancement from certificate to MBA program  Student course evaluations

An example of a modification to the program based on this assessment is enhanced recruitment. The program coordinator from Empire State College, along with the Chair of the Department of Clinical Education, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and members of the Office of Student Affairs meet with interested first ‐ year students in the in the Fall semester to provide information
