MSCHE Self Study April 2021
President’s Task Force on Race and Equity and the subsequent report, establishes an important agenda for the institution, which we welcome and which will impact each of the Institutional Priorities of this Self ‐ Study. The TFRE report will form the basis for the 2021 ‐ 2025 Diversity and Inclusion Plan. Long ‐ term Planning ‐ Framework for the Future : In 2019, the College began a conversation on the long ‐ term (15 ‐ 20 years) outlook for the College and its programs. The project was initiated in light of the changing health care environment, potential limits of the campus on 42 nd St. (which has no real expansion opportunities), and the highly specialized nature of the College’s programs which may be financially susceptible to external forces. While this project is on hold due to the pandemic, Phase 1 was competed and looked at the campus, its capacity for growth, and the pros and cons of being located in Midtown Manhattan. The assessment of the campus did reveal significant opportunities for growth in educational programming, research expansion and increased patient care activities. These are substantial growth opportunities once we get beyond the pandemic. In summary, the Self ‐ Study process has complemented our ongoing strategic planning and assessment process in important ways and has helped to focus our challenges and opportunities for the future. The intervention of the COVID ‐ 19 pandemic and the community’s self ‐ examination on issues of race and equity have undoubtedly influenced the conclusions of this process, increasing the importance of some issues over others. We look forward to the visit of the MSCHE Team.
