The resident must be able to diagnose and manage complex, subtle or infrequently seen visual disorders and clinical presentations by using standard of care diagnostic and treatment modalities. The resident must provide patient ‐ centered care for those with complex conditions through culturally competent patient education, communication, and shared decision making with the patient. The resident must demonstrate an understanding of the role of interprofessional healthcare and must communicate and collaborate with other professionals to assure that appropriate resources are utilized for well coordinated patient care. The resident must be able to improve patient care through self ‐ assessment and documented quality assurance activities. The resident must research and analyze current scientific information and integrate this knowledge into patient care through evidence ‐ based clinical decision making. The resident must promote and disseminate knowledge through scholarly activities, such as lectures, presentations, publications, posters, or research. As described in the Assessment Plan , the meeting of learning objectives established by the program is assessed in multiple ways for each resident. Among these are: Review of the detailed patient encounter information tabulated through the Meditrek logs Regular evaluation of resident’s performance by residency site supervisor Evaluation of the resident’s oral and written presentations Annual Residency Exit Survey Resident’s evaluation of site/supervisor Periodic Resident Alumni Surveys Director’s Mid ‐ Year Resident Interview Written examination administered by the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) taken by vision therapy residents Semi ‐ annual evaluations of faculty supervisors completed by residents Program development of advanced competencies and assessment of residents in achieving these competencies Data collected for each residency program are analyzed to determine if they are meeting their educational leaning objectives. When data suggest substantive shortcomings, potential solutions are formulated and implemented. While the analysis and formulation of potential solutions may be initiated at various administrative levels related to the residency program, the offices best suited for analysis, planning and implementation are the:
