MSCHE Self Study April 2021

We anticipate that, even with the fiscal constraints, we may have to utilize some of that reserve. Fund balances for recent years are given below:

Tuition and Fees Total revenues from tuition and fees for 2018 ‐ 2019 and 2019 ‐ 2020 were $12.9 million each year. The University’s Board of Trustees determine tuition upon the recommendation of the campus. In ‐ state and out ‐ of ‐ state tuition are, respectively, $29,820 and $51,150 per year for the optometry program and $11,090 and $22,650 per year for the graduate program (2019 ‐ 20 academic year). Most full ‐ time PhD students receive a tuition waiver and stipends for teaching or research assistantships. Most part ‐ time MS students are also full ‐ time students in the optometry professional program and, as such, are not charged additional tuition for graduate courses. The College incurs the cost of tuition for graduate courses. Significant changes in enrollment are not anticipated for any of the College’s programs. COVID ‐ 19 Impact : The pandemic is not only a health crisis, but it has also caused a fiscal one. Beyond the uncertainty of the level of State support, the College has also been affected by lower patient revenue, lower interest income and lower revenue from facility use agreements. Furthermore, there have been previously unforeseen expenses—the procurement of personal protective and other screening and sanitizing equipment, the rapid transition to remote learning and telecommuting and the hiring of a nurse COVID ‐ 19 Coordinator. To help offset pandemic ‐ related expenses, the College did apply for and received $500K in Cares Act funding. Throughout, the College has been diligent in maintaining sufficient reserves in order to make pandemic disruption financially manageable.

COVID ‐ 19 Impact : The College continues to enjoy full enrollment with a highly qualified class entering in the Fall of 2020. There has been no impact on tuition revenues, except that a recommended tuition increase of 2% was not approved by the Board of Trustees.
