o Two representatives from the University Eye Center (UEC) who are elected by clinical faculty members with assignments in the UEC.  Four students with one student member from each of the four professional program classes, elected by Student Council. The students collectively shall have one vote. Student members must be in good academic standing.  One representative from the Office of Student Affairs who shall serve ex officio (non ‐ voting)  One representative from Library/Information Resources who shall serve ex officio (non ‐ voting) Student members have the opportunity to participate in discussions of all proposed curricular changes. They play an important liaison function by bringing curricular proposals back to their classmates for discussion and sharing the results of these discussions with the Curriculum Committee. As a result of educational effectiveness assessment, a number of innovations and modifications have been made to the curriculum and supporting programs. Recent example, which are described in detail in Educational Effectiveness Assessment – Examples , include:  Introduction of Boards Assistance Program  Introduction of gap exams to assess student progress  Changing third ‐ year from semester to quarter system  Development and implementation of micro ‐ credentials  Changes in content and sequencing in the biological and vision science curriculum  Purchase and implementation of virtual reality simulators  Development and introduction of a stand ‐ alone low vision course  Development and introduction of a stand ‐ alone clinical medicine course  Implementation of academic advising and remediation programs o The Academic Advising Program (focused on didactic and laboratory courses) o The Clinical Enhancement Program (focused on clinical performance)  Development and offering of elective courses  Expansion of the fourth ‐ year externship program  Revision of clinical optometry sequence  Development of a course entitled Ophthalmic Lasers and Advanced In ‐ Office Ophthalmic Procedures

The goal of the PhD in Vision Science Program is to provide comprehensive research training that positions our students to achieve success in careers in research and academia and make significant contributions to the field of vision science.
