the program receive guidance from their undergraduate institutions as well as from SUNY College of Optometry Student Affairs staff. Advanced Standing Program The program director and director of admissions review applications after interviews with the admissions committee (see Advanced Standing Program and Admissions Policy and Procedure documents). Admission to this program, which entails 2.5 to 3.00 years in residence at SUNY Optometry, requires the completion of substantial training abroad with credit given after careful review by the dean, Dean’s Council and department chairs of the candidate’s transcripts. Due to the regular flow of students from Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) and following a thorough analysis of its curriculum, the Dean and Dean’s Council provided general approval to the WMU curriculum, allowing graduates of this program to be admitted directly into the 3.0 year program by the director of admissions. Recruitment Recruitment activity currently consists primarily of visits to undergraduate colleges; targeted mailings to undergraduate health professions advisors throughout the nation and to optometrists and high school counselors in the Tristate area; the College Web site, which has a link to an online common application utilized by all schools/college of optometry; participation in National Association of Advisors to the Health Professions; webinars with selected pre ‐ optometry and pre ‐ health clubs in undergraduate colleges; a digital campaign to promote college events open to the public; bi ‐ annual open houses for students and advisors from local colleges; and participation in the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) Optometry Gives Me Life recruitment program. The vice president for student affairs (VPSA), director of admissions and marketing and admissions assistant have primary responsibility for visiting undergraduate campuses ( Campuses Visited List) . These recruiting visits usually consist of meetings with the pre ‐ professional advisor, pre ‐ optometry club (if there is one) and interested students on a group or individual basis. In addition to visiting colleges in the New York City metropolitan area and Upstate New York, there has been an additional recruitment concentration on colleges in high yield states, including California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Florida, and in selected provinces in Canada. Relevant program administrators review regularly all program publications, written policies, advertising and student recruitment material for accuracy and update them as needed. The primary published recruitment materials are the Admissions Guide , College’s Fact Sheet and View Book . As described in its Assessment Plan , The College publishes a great deal of assessment data that can be used by students and others to evaluate its programs.
