Continuing Education Requirements for Privileging

Initial Request
Bi-ennial Renewal **Requirements must be met within the credentialing cycle** Providers must submit documentation (e.g., certificate of course completion) of not fewer than forty continuing education credits - approved by the Council on Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE) or by the Office of Continuing Professional Education of the SUNY College of Optometry. At least 24 hours of this total must be in ocular disease topics, AND Satisfactory review by the Quality Assessment & Improvement Team. This will include the review of the medical records of not fewer than twenty (20) primary eye care patients examined, treated or consulted upon by the applicant within the University Eye Center. Submit documentation of four hours of related continuing education credit, AND Satisfactory review by the Quality Assessment & Improvement Team. This will include the review of the medical records of not fewer than ten (10) patients from birth to five years of age examined, 42
Adult and Pediatric Primary Eye Care
Primary Eye Care Completion of an ACOE-eligible Residency Program or a Fellowship or equivalent training, or currently enrolled in a post-graduate program in primary care. AND An active New York State license to practice optometry.
Comprehensive Optometric Evaluation and Management of Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers
Completion of or current enrollment in an ACOE-eligible Residency Program in any of the following: Pediatric Optometry, Vision Therapy, or Primary Eye Care (with a pediatric component), OR
