Wearing jewelry is appropriate as long as it does not interfere with patient care.  Shoes must be closed-toe and clean, polished and in good repair. Sneakers are not appropriate.  Laboratory coats/jackets are to be worn by all health care providers and students and should be neat and clean.  Men must wear slacks, dress shirts and ties and women will wear slacks, skirts, or dresses as defined above. For both men and women, the clothing should not be revealing. 3) Other Personal Habits: a) You should refrain from chewing gum when interacting directly with the public or with patients. b) Eating or drinking is prohibited in patient care/public areas. The requirements listed above are not all-encompassing. Circumstances may arise which are not covered by this policy. Any decision on the interpretation of this policy is at the discretion of your supervisor, your clinical instructor, the service chief, the Chief Medical Officer or the VP for Clinical Administration. In addition to the above, the following items are not permitted: Denim clothing or similarly casual fabric, skirts and pants with cargo pockets and Capri’s or cropped pants. Failure to comply with these standards may result in disciplinary actions including a lowering of the clinical grade, and dismissal from the clinic assignment and being charged with an unexcused absence. 4) Identification Tags: a) Your Student ID and name tag must be worn in patient care areas at all times.
