Douglas Schading Assistant Vice President for Human Resources, Doug Schading, retired at the end of December after 33 years of service to the College. However, his service to SUNY extends back to 1978 when he began his HR career at Buffalo State, moving next to New Paltz and finally to Optometry in 1986. The breadth and depth of his HR experience, developed over those many years, has led to his being a trusted source of accurate and clearly-stated information, sound judgment, and, if sought, honest advice. Dr. Philip Kruger Dr. Philip Kruger, professor emeritus of biological and vision sciences received the Presidential Medallion at Commencement in May as he embarked on his retirement. Dr. Kruger joined the College in 1972 as a clinical instructor in the vision therapy clinic. He is also a two-time alumnus having received his MS and PhD in vision science from the College in 1974 and 1984, respectively. In addition to teaching, Dr. Kruger is a well- regarded researcher having received numerous awards and grants for his research focused on the broad range of stimuli that control ocular accommodation. Dr. Gregory DiSanto Dr. Gregory DiSanto graduated from SUNY College of Optometry in 1984 and became an assistant clinical professor the same year. During his tenure, Dr. DiSanto supervised third and fourth year interns in the primary care and ocular disease clinics at the University Eye Center, instructed second year students in optometric methods, and served as the faculty advisor for SVOSH including helping to organize the mission trip to Panama in February for students and alumni. He retired in May 2019. Karen DeGazon Karen faithfully served the College as the Assistant to the President since 1988 – 31 years. During her tenure, she diligently oversaw operations for the Office of the President as well as served on several committees and councils. Karen’s retirement celebration was held in September.

Kim Oliver In July, Kim Oliver retired from the College. Kim most recently worked closely with Elaine Wells in the Harold Kohn Vision Science Library. With more than 20 years of service through her various roles and to UUP, Kim touched the lives of many people within the College community.
