Institutional Federal Compliance Report 2021
STATE OF NEW YORK
Schedule of Findings and Questioned Costs
Year ended March 31, 2018
Possible Asserted Effect Enrollment Reporting in a timely and accurate manner is critical for effective management of the federal programs. A student’s enrollment status determines eligibility for in-school status, deferment, and grace periods. Failure to report timely may result in federal funds being awarded to participants that are not eligible (unallowable costs) as defined by the laws, regulations, and terms and conditions of the grant agreement of Student Financial Assistance Federal program. Statistical Sampling The sample was not intended to be, and was not, a statistically valid sample. Questioned Costs None. Recommendation We recommend that SUNY enhance its management review controls over enrollment reporting and status changes to ensure that status changes are being reported to the NSLDS within the 60-day required period. These status changes should include reductions or increases in attendance levels, withdrawals, graduations, or approved leaves of absence. Views of Responsible Officials Recommendation accepted. SUNY will enhance management controls and enact remedies at the three cited campuses to ensure full compliance.
