Full Status Report: The Division of Family Health (DFH) obtains data for Form 4 “Number and Percentage of Newborns and Others Screened Cases Confirmed and Treated” from the New York State Department of Health’s Wadsworth Center that oversees New York’s Newborn Screening Program. This program screens approximately 230,000 newborns annually for over 45 metabolic disorders. The data are collected by querying Wadsworth Center’s Neometrics database, our Laboratory Information Management System for the number of initial specimens. This is the total screened. The presumptive positive screens for this purpose mean the number of infants that met the requirements for referral. The number confirmed are the number of cases closed in the system with a mnemonic code indicated the baby had the disease screened.
