COMMITTEE ON FACULTY DEVELOPMENT

A. GENERAL PURPOSE: The goal of the Faculty Development Committee is to assist faculty members in achieving excellence in teaching, scholarship, and other areas of professional development.

B. REPORTING LINK: Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs, and the Faculty Executive Committee

C. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: The committee will • In collaboration with the Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs, create and implement faculty development programs that address all aspects of professional development. • Advise and assist in the development of both internal and external resources to support faculty development. • Provide a series of core programs that utilize and build upon the knowledge, expertise, and experiences of the faculty at the SUNY State College of Optometry. • Sponsor programs and workshops featuring experts and guest speakers. • Promote the use of resources provided by SUNY Central Administration and collaborate with other SUNY campuses to increase faculty participation in developmental activities.

D. MEMBERSHIP: The Committee will consist of five members. • All members will be elected by the faculty. •

One representative from each of the two departments who are elected by the faculty members of their respective departments and 1 representative from the UEC who is elected by UEC faculty members. • Two members will be elected by the faculty as at-large members. • The Committee will elect the person to serve as Chair. • Term of office shall be two years, with a two-term limit.

E. DECISION MAKING: Decisions shall be made by majority vote.
