APPENDIX E:

GUIDELINES FOR CALCULATION OF FACULTY EFFORT The following are guidelines for the calculation of effort for various faculty assignments. Fulltime FTE = 1.0 All assignments are given in FTE percentages for the term and annualized accordingly. Teaching: • 1 hr. of lecture per week (w/3 hrs. prep time) = 0.1 (10% effort) per term • Instructor of Record effort is calculated for the full course contact time (e.g. A 32-hour course that meets 2 hrs./wk. for 16-week semester = 0.2 FTE) • 3 hrs. of lab or seminar per week = 0.1 per term Administrative Assignments: • Admin "sessions” assigned in units = 0.1 per term • Academic Admin includes:

Department Chairs Special assignments

• Clinical Admin includes:

Service Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs Residency Supervisors QA & I Committee Compliance Assignments Special assignments

Other:

• Clinic (1 session) = 0.1 per term • Admissions = 0.1 per term • Research/Scholarship/Special Project "sessions" assigned in units = 0.1 per term • Faculty Development "session" unit = 0.1 per term FTE Annualization: • For 12-month contracts – Multiply semester assignments by 0.375 (based on a 9-month academic year calendar) Multiply quarterly and summer assignments by 0.25 (based on 3-month quarters) • For 10-month contracts -

Multiply semester assignments by 0.45 (based on a 9-month academic calendar)
