ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY AND INFECTION CONTROL COMMITTEE This is a University Eye Center Committee Reviewed May 2019
Purpose: The Environmental Safety and Infection Control (ESIC) Committee will ensure that the University Eye Center (UEC) is continually prepared to deal effectively with all possible contingencies arising from safety and infection control-related situations, as well as to prevent potential safety and infection control related issues within the UEC.
Reporting Link: Clinic Council
Specific Responsibilities: 1. To develop standards and procedures for infection control and environmental safety. 2. To develop programs for the staff to educate them on environmental safety and appropriate infection control techniques. 3. To review general safety issues and recommend applicable action. 4. Will monitor for nosocomial and other infections, and initiate appropriate studies or control measures when an infection danger exists for patients, personnel or visitors. 5. Attend committee meetings. 6. Report its findings and recommended action to the Clinic Council on a periodic basis. 7. Report its findings and recommended action to UEC departments as appropriate.
