Evacuation Drills
Evacuation drills are performed three times a year and are conducted to reflect potential emergency situations that the University Eye Center may encounter. Fire drills are conducted every month on the clinic floors.
Bomb Threats
Policy It is the policy of the University Eye Center, to evacuate all occupants from the building upon receipt of a bomb threat. The order to evacuate shall be given by either the University Police Department (UPD) or any responding and assisting first responder agency. Procedure If notice of a bomb threat is received, the recipient should follow instructions provided below or transfer the call to University Police (ext. 5555), when possible. 1. If any employee receives a bomb threat, they will relay the call to University Police (ext. 5555) 2. Any employee that is unable to transfer the call to UPD should keep the caller on the line as long as possible to get pertinent information about the nature of the threat and of the caller. The Bomb Threat Report form should be used as a guide in asking pertinent questions. 3. University Police will immediately call the New York City Police Department (NYPD) through 911. 4. The building will be evacuated using the same procedure for a fire or smoke emergency. 5. The College will issue an emergency notification to members of the College community as soon as possible. Perspective A bomb threat should be viewed as a serious incident because of the potential danger of mass casualty. Should a threat of an explosive or incendiary device be received, the reaction of fear may result in panic, escape stampedes and related casualties.
