6. Death Benefits Generally, death benefits are determined by the Retirement System selected. However, New York State Law provides a Survivor's Benefit regardless of which system is chosen. Further information is available in the Human Resources/Affirmative Action Office. 7. Credit Union Membership is available to all employees to participate in the Municipal Credit Union. Enrollment forms are available in the Human Resources/Affirmative Action Office. 9. Life Insurance If you are represented by one of the public employee unions, you should contact your union representative for information on life insurance available to members of your bargaining unit 10. Worker's Compensation Worker's Compensation Insurance protects all staff members who are disabled or die as a result of an injury arising out of and in the course of their employment. Benefits include reimbursement of specified medical expenses, scheduled payments for permanent disabilities, and weekly benefits during time lost from the job because of an occupational injury. All accidents must be reported to the College Public Safety Office within 24 hours. 11. Tuition Assistance Program Through negotiated agreements with the employee unions, New York State offers you a variety of tuition reimbursement opportunities. Programs are designed to provide financial assistance for employees to improve job skills, performance, and career opportunities by taking credit-bearing or noncredit courses at participating New York State educational institutions. Additional information on any of the tuition assistance programs, and appropriate application forms, are available at the Human Resources Office. 12. SUNY-wide PC Discount Program
