Pediatric Micro-Credential The College of Optometry's Pediatric Micro-Credential was designed to provide a group of highly motivated optometry students advanced academic, clinical, and professional opportunities in pediatric optometry, optometric care of children with disabilities, and infant vision care. This concentration allows for deeper and more dedicated learning beyond what is provided in the core professional OD curriculum. Pediatric Micro-Credential students will focus on efficient and effective examination of these unique populations who generally require more patience and advanced techniques. Students will obtain a deeper understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of pediatric ocular conditions and diseases, ranging from those seen in typically developed children to those born with disabilities and premature infants. The Micro-Credential students will review and summarize landmark studies in areas such as amblyopia, strabismus, and myopia management. The final project is one guided by a dedicated, residency-trained faculty mentor as a final presentation, paper, or poster. Vision Rehabilitation Micro-Credential The College of Optometry's Vision Rehabilitation Micro-Credential was designed to provide a group of highly motivated optometry students advanced academic, clinical, and professional opportunities in the diagnoses and management of binocular and oculomotor visual deficiencies, strabismus, amblyopia, traumatic brain injury, biofeedback vision training, and visual perceptual difficulties, as well as low vision field loss. This concentration allows for deeper and more dedicated learning beyond what is provided in the core professional OD curriculum. Students will go beyond the diagnosis and treatment of rehabilitation patients and learn how to support the emotional and real world needs of their patients. They will submit an original, scholarly poster to a nationally recognized Optometric meeting as well as develop a patient based case in a College-wide grand rounds presentation. The final project is one guided by a dedicated, residency-trained faculty mentor.
